Following the success of our first book, we announced a call for entries for this second volume and the response was overwhelming; even after filtering out the most appropriate submissions the panel of judges were still faced with the daunting task of reducing 500 excellent images down to a final selection of just sixty. This response is yet another sign of the incredible growth of the digital art industry as it is fuelled by the many Internet communities, such as 3DTotal.com, which allow artists to meet, share and learn from each other.
For this volume we have joined forces with publishers Focal Press, an imprint of Elsevier. We are confident that, with their experience and worldwide networks combined with the leading talent of the digital art community, this book series will strengthen further and will be accessible to a much wider audience. Final thanks must of course go the 58 digital art masters featured in this volume, who represent five continents and thirty countries. The combination of their cutting edge skills, talents and mastery of both traditional art techniques and software knowledge provide us with this volume that is sure to educate and inspire artists everywhere.
